The Nugget
Nugget Couch Review 2024 (UPDATED)
What’s Included?
The Nugget comes with four (4) base cushions, two (2) triangles, and an optional wedge. The Nugget base cushions are sewn together into a top layer and a bottom layer.
The top layer of the Nugget is thinner than the the bottom layer.
Quality/Durability
The Nugget fabric is a traditional microsuede. It’s soft and comes in vibrant colors and holds up to machine washing, which is a plus! They use quality zippers and invisible zippers.
The bottom layer of foam is thick and firm and great for active kids - if they intend to use it to build forts and other things, this is the piece you’d want to use. Which brings me to the top layer.
The top layer of the Nugget is thin and squishy - which makes sense - it was designed to be a dorm room couch. However, for kids looking to build sturdy forts it isn’t super useful.
The handles are made from white nylon and there is only one handle per a set of cushions.
Foam Source
The Nugget foam is made in the USA (North Carolina) and CertiPur-US certified.
Per Nugget: Our foam is CertiPUR-US® certified to exceed safety standards. It’s free of mercury, lead, and formaldehyde, and VOCs are minimal to protect indoor air quality.
2024 Nugget Couch Foam Update
Upon inspecting the foam, it had a tear/was crumbling right out of the package. This was disappointing and made me question whether the foam would hold up long-term. For the price, I would hope the foam would be of higher quality.
Fabric
There are currently 3 different fabric lines: Microsuede, Double-Brushed and Courderoy.
They are Greenguard Gold certified.
2024 Nugget Couch Fabric Update
The stitching was also disappointing. I understand some lose threads, but there were a lot! The fabric was thin, the stitching was poor. I don’t see the covers being able to take much wear and tear.
Cost
The Nugget starts at $269+ for 6 pieces. There are options to upgrade fabric and add waterproof liners.
Overall Value 2024
The Nugget gets a 6/10 for being made in the USA, having good colorway options and being a solid product. I was disappointed in the recent quality, so I dropped my rating from an 8/10 to a 6/10. I prefer equal bases as opposed to a thin top layer that is hard to build things for kids with.
